You will need a backpacking weight (3-4 lbs.) sleeping bag.  If you don’t own one or can’t borrow one, let us know and we’ll rent one for you.  We will provide comfortable Thermarest sleeping pads and quality tents.

A note on bringing extra “treats”.  We carry trail mixes and dried fruit on the hike to camp, besides having a hearty lunch.  If you bring extra snacks, please plan to carry those in your day pack at all times.  Chocolate can melt, packages can break and beverages can leak.  Of course, in the evening we will store those items in a food bucket.  Since you will be taking your llama pack directly to your tent, we prefer, and so will you, not to have them smelling of food!

Items with an asterisk (*) and anything else you might want or need on the hike to base camp should be carried in your daypack so they can be readily available as we do not open the llama panniers until we get to camp.

Instead of a terry cloth towel which can be bulky and heavy when wet, we suggest a lightweight, quick drying, absorbent “pack towel” by Cascade Designs.   We have those available for sale.  Please downsize your toiletry bag and bring only what you will need and use.   Using travel size toiletries will help eliminate bulk and weight.

We have some great alpaca hiking socks available if you are interested.

We also have the 7.5 minute quadrangles maps of your trek area for sale.  We can mail them to you or have them available the day of the trip.  Just let us know.
